What if thinking was a big part of my life years ago. The more what-ifs I thought about something the less I would do. Because what- if whatever scary thought I was thinking actually happened? Then what would I do?
What if thinking is actually called anticipatory anxiety. It can control your life and keep you from growing emotionally. People tend to anticipate the worst happening so they don’t do whatever it is they are what-ifing about. It can be a huge stumbling block.
Imagine if you actually don’t listen to that wha- if thought? Maybe you could start replacing the what- ifs with “So what- if!” You might say something like, “So what if I feel anxious, I can deal with that.” Or maybe you would say, “So what -if I don’t get the job promotion, at least I tried and made the effort.”
So stretch your wings and step out there. You will feel emotionally stronger and be proud of yourself for removing the stumbling blocks.
